When an individual is referred to cardiac rehabilitation a staff member will schedule an orientation session consisting of a medical records review, nursing assessment, orientation to the exercise equipment, and general overview of the program. All necessary paperwork is completed during the orientation and an appointment time is
given to return to begin the program.
The exercise program consists of 2-3 sessions per week for up to 36 sessions for no more than 18 weeks. Education classes are also part of the program that are generally given once per week covering such topics as: heart healthy eating, benefits of exercise, risk factor modification, stress, symptom recognition, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, irregular heart beats, and symptom recognition and management.
The team works closely with the referring physicians throughout the program to best meet the needs of each patient. If any medical problem develops during the program the physician is contacted and the appropriate plan of care is implemented. At the end of the program, a progress report is sent to the physician and patients are eligible to join our ongoing maintenance program for $38.00 a month.
Medicare and most insurance companies cover the 36 sessions of cardiac rehabilitation for the appropriate diagnosis. Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance company to obtain details of their coverage. The business office will work with patients whose insurance does not cover rehabilitation services to develop a payment schedule.
