Construction at Lakeview Center
Lakeview Center’s construction of a $6 million project to house services for children broke ground in December 2010.
The three–story, 48,600 square–foot building will allow Lakeview to provide all of its outpatient children’s services in a single location that is both more comfortable and more therapeutic for families with children requiring behavioral health services. Currently, most of the organization’s children’s services are located in an outgrown 15,710 square–foot building so cramped for space that it no longer is well suited for the services provided there.
Many times having a child who is diagnosed with a behavioral health issue can be traumatizing to the family unit. It is extremely important that we provide our services in a facility where these families feel supported and welcomed. That starts at the front door.
~ Edna Williams, director of Children’s Behavioral Health Services, Lakeview Center
Last year Lakeview Center provided services for nearly 5,000 children. Those services include psychiatric care; individual, family and group counseling; an infant mental health program for at–risk children under age 5; and an intensive program of supports and treatments designed to help children with serious mental illnesses avoid the need for inpatient care.
The new building will be located on Lakeview’s main campus near the current children’s services facility. Construction began in January 2011 and could be completed as early as March 1, 2012.
The architect for the project is Bay Design Associates, and Williams–Brown, Inc., is the general contractor
