Baptist LifeFlight Operations Begin in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Veteran Air Medical Transport Service Expands in Southeast, Adding Fourth Location

PENSACOLA, Fla. (March 3, 2008) – Baptist LifeFlight, the third oldest hospital–based program in the United States, is now providing air ambulance service to hospitals and EMS systems in central and south Mississippi. Operating out of the Bobby Chain Airport in Hattiesburg, Miss., LifeFlight will service 18 counties in the region.

LifeFlight 4 is a state–of–the–art EC 135 air craft equipped with the latest safety technology including satellite tracking and XM weather radar overlays. The aircraft is scheduled for installation and implementation of Night Vision Goggle technology to further enhance safety of operations.

“After more than 31 years of air ambulance service to northwest Florida and southern Alabama, Baptist LifeFlight is pleased to expand our service area into south central Mississippi,” said Kevin Stanhope, program director for Baptist LifeFlight, Pensacola. “The addition of our fourth base enhances coverage and aircraft availability. For patients and those we serve, this means a rapid, dedicated response.”

The Hattiesburg location is a fourth base for Baptist LifeFlight, complementing the three other LifeFlight locations: LifeFlight 1, Pensacola, Fla.; LifeFlight 2 Mobile, Ala.; and LifeFlight 3 Evergreen, Ala. LifeFlight significantly reduces the transport time of critically ill patients providing a greater chance of recovery.

Freddie Parker will serve as base manager for the Hattiesburg, Miss. location. Additional LifeFlight crew members include highly trained and experienced flight nurses and paramedics.
